As a family, we've visited Disneyland Paris 5 times now. Every time we've visited, we have always used the VEA shuttle, now referred to as the 'Magical Shuttle.'

But, upon our last visit, a week ago, we did something different. We used a private transfer - a taxi effectively.

And that is my suggestion - the best way to go between the airport and your hotel is via a private transfer.

So why not the VEA shuttle? Well we've had a number of problems with them. On our very first visit, we ended up paying for the shuttle twice because they didn't send us the tickets upon booking. With us being first time visitors, we had no idea of what we were supposed to receive ahead of our trip, and so we went without the tickets. They apparently had no way of honouring our booking and so we were left with no option but to pay for a new ticket.

Our second issue with them occurred on our 4th visit. We almost missed our flight because of the VEA shuttle! As the bus stopped at each hotel, once it got to the Cheyenne, it stopped for about 30 minutes, as the drivers swapped over. Then, once it got to the Santa Fe, a family had a similar issue to what we had on our first visit - they had no ticket, but insisted that they booked. This set us back another 45 minutes. We arrived at the airport with an hour to spare.

So, you think with all this, they'd do something to apologise. Well no, on our first visit, only Disney give us back half of the ticket fee, but VEA never gave us back the other half! And really, it wasn't Disney who needed to give it back!

But besides these issues, there are a a lot of drawbacks to the service anyway.

    1. When you arrive at airport, you have to hang around outside waiting for the next bus - with our private transfer, the driver waited for us at arrivals and we were out of there in 5 minutes.

    2. It's slow. If you stay at the New York or the Disneyland Hotel, you have to wait while the bus stops at all other hotels - both upon arrival and departure

    3. The price is not much better than going for a private vehicle - we paid €120 return for a private, spacious, air conditioned Volkswagen MPV.

However, if you do go private, be sure to find a good provider. Don't go with taxi firms - Parisian taxis are unreliable rip-offs. Go with a company that specialises in transfers - and the only company I can suggest is Inter Service Prestige. They were incredibly reliable - really reliable! The drivers arrived way ahead of time, they were smartly dressed, and spoke good English. Their vehicles were very clean too. http://www.isprestige.com

There's a lot of companies like Inter service prestige. In France, we call them "VTC" (Véhicule de tourisme avec chauffeur)... More or less that means "passenger car with driver". The difference with taxis is that they can only drive you if you booked them first.

You can search on internet "VTC Disneyland Paris" -and the name of your airport-, you'll have a lot of choice and you'll see price or be able to ask for a quotation. ;)

Thanks for the information, Ryan. I just paid for the Magic Shuttle as an add-on to the Disney package for our trip in June, but now I think I'll ask if they can refund the money and book privately.

    Thanks again!

We used the VEA Shuttle a few times but gave up on it years ago.  tbh now I normally hire a car from CDG, whether I stay onsite or offsite.  I am travelling with my eldest daughter in September and have booked an economy car for only £44 for 4days.

Having said that I am taking a friend and her 2 children in January and there will be 6 of us in total so planning to book a private transfer.

    Great post.

Been a few times, having used the Magic Shuttle on the first trips changed to private transfer and gain at least 2 hours hotel/ park time.

    Always private transfers.
